About this book

Language: French

This illustrated guide presents for the first time all the species of snakes currently known in the 30 countries of West, Central and North Africa, from the coastal plains of the Mediterranean to the savannahs and mountains that border the south and east of the great Congolese forest.

The work deals with the 375 listed species, among which about sixty have recently been added to the fauna of these countries or restored from old synonymies. It is enriched by more than 1,000 photographs of snakes, most of which are published for the first time. Illustrated keys and identification charts facilitate quick identification of species. For each of them, a sheet provides a detailed presentation of the distinctive characters, details of their ecology and their dangerousness, as well as a distribution map and a diagram of the scale of the head. A chapter is devoted specifically to bites and their management.

Intended for a very wide audience, this book will constitute a reference work for many years.
