This book is a photographic catalogue of all 443 Japanese trechiniid beetles known up to 2023. The book shows high-definition focus-stacked images of 92 live individuals of trechiniid beetles are shown on one full page or half page, together with photos of 99 habitats such as caves, abandoned mines and colluvia. The author summarizes the taxonomy, morphology and distributions of 32 genera. For all 443 species known up to 2023, the book lists scientific names, body lengths, type localities, references and distributions. Seven distribution maps show the distribution for 21 genera. The book is the result of research trips to 142 Japanese caves made by the author over the course of 22 years, which are introduced here with detailed information. Also included is a photographic guide to Trechini specimen collecting, mounting and photographing methods. Finally, the reference section includes papers describing the 443 known species.
