Language: Spanish with bilingual keys in English and Spanish

The main goal of this treatise is to give a clear and objective resume of the actual knowledge of the snakes of Colombia. As a first approach it includes a few notes about fisiography, climatology and hydrography as well as natural regions before going into all data about the principal theme.

A bilingual (Spanish-English) artificial key vith diagnosis and distribution patterns of jry species found within the limits of the country is offered. All known aspects about le biology of snakes are also presented.

Finally, the patterns of distribution of snakes of Colombia and their possible origin are studied. Joint with the text there are several maps, diagrams, photographs and other figures in order to make its underlanding easier.


The book comes with a 17-page addendum in Italian, titled "Addenda y Corrigenda al libro Ofidios de Colombia", published in the Boll. Mus. reg. Sci.nat. Torino 7(1), published in 22-02-1989, which has 8 colour plates with 23 colour photos. Its summary reads:
"While the book Ofidios de Colombia was at the printing office some works dealing with Colombian snakes were published. In this paper we present up-to-date data for the following genera: Anomalepis, Geophis, Dendrophidion, Liophis, Micnirus (Leptomicrurus) and Thamnodynastes. We include new photographs of several species."
