This publication describes the diversity of the insect order Orthoptera (grasshoppers, locusts and crickets) in the biogeographic zones making up India. The country is home to 1033 species and subspecies belonging to 398 genera and 21 families, of which 563 species and subspecies belonging to 19 families and 70 genera are endemic. It is also analysed that 54 genera under 9 families are monotypic.
