About this book

Palaeofocus 2 contains two papers both part of a series of publications aiming at the description and illustration of the Pliocene stratigraphy and fauna of Belgium, within the broader frame of the European Pliocene.

In the first paper the stratigraphy of the Pliocene Antwerp basin in Belgium is outlined and compared with the international scale. A series of important sections is described. The description ends with a series of pictures of the sections and strata mentioned and of special or characteristic depositional features encountered.

In the second paper, the Annelida (worms), Anthozoa (corals, hydrozoans) and Crustacea (mud shrimp, crabs, lobsters, barnacles) of the Pliocene in Belgium are listed and illustrated. Ostracods abound in some parts of the Belgian Pliocene, but they are not treated here yet by lack of a recent systematic revision.
