The Indo-Pacific apogonid fish genus Archamia Gill consists of 13 species: ataenia Randall and Satapoomin from the Andaman Sea and northern Sumatra; biguttata Lachner (melasma is a synonym) from the western Pacific east to Samoa; bilineata Gon and Randall from the Red Sea; bleekeri (Günther) (notata and goni are synonyms) from the western Pacific to the east coast of Africa; buruensis (Bleeker) from the western Pacific east to Fiji; flavofasciata, new species, from the east coast of Africa and Madagascar (with 12-14 anal soft rays, usually 6 median predorsal scales, 7 dark-edged dusky yellow bars on body, and a small caudal spot); fucata (Cantor) (macropteroides, kagoshimanus, sansibaricus, dispilus, and irida are synonyms), the most common and widespread species, from the Red Sea and east coast of Africa to the Marshall Islands and Samoa; leai Waite from the southern Great Barrier Reef, Norfolk Island, and New Caledonia; lineolata (Cuvier) from the Red Sea; macroptera (Cuvier) (zeylonicus and argenteus are synonyms) from the eastern Indian Ocean and western Pacific; mozambiquensis Smith from the east coast of Africa; pallida Gon and Randall from southern Oman, known only from juveniles; and zosterophora (Bleeker) from the Philippines to the Great Barrier Reef, east to Vanuatu.
