Artificial keys for determination of families, genera, species and subspecies are presented both in Spanish and english. The snakes in Ecuador are represented by members belonging to 9 families which include 62 genera and a total of 186 species; Aniliidae (1 genus and 1 species); Anomalepididae (2 genera and 1 species); Boidae (6 genera and 10 species); Colubridae (46 genera and 131 species); Crotalidae (2I genera and 16 species); Elapidae (2 genera and 19 species); Hydropheidae (1 genus and 1 species); Leptotyphlopidae (1 genus and 5 species); Typhlopidae (1 genus and 1 species).
