About this book

Language: English

This pictorial guide book introduces the swallowtail butterflies of Manas Biosphere Reserve of Assam, one of the biologically richest areas of northeast India. Sixty-two species of swallowtail butterflies are already known from this region, of which 33 species have been recorded from the Manas Biosphere Reserve. We have included all the 33 species along with brief descriptions about their wingspans, distributions, habit and habitats, morphological descriptions, local status, legal status, larval host plants and authors‘ personal notes. Attempts have been made to attach photographs of both the upper and the under parts of each species against the descriptions. Images of the larval host plants and nectaring plants have been separately arranged. In the background chapters, the relevant information is based on available literature, surveys and authors’ personal observations.
