The Wildlife of Bihar: A Field Guide gives an account of the wildlife and information on the protected areas of Bihar. It also provides vital information on each of the faunal species found in Bihar which is useful for easy identification and other purposes in field level protection and management.
The book has been arranged in three parts. The first part describes the Protected Areas for wildlife referred to as PAs, one Tiger Reserve including National Park, twelve sanctuaries and a zoo. Most of the fauna is found in these protected areas. The exact location of these sanctuaries, National Park and zoo has been shown on the detailed maps along with description about the PA.
The second part is on animal identification, which helps in quick identification of various animals (mammals, reptiles and birds). This part has been arranged family-wise as far as possible for easy understanding.
The third part presents useful assorted and in-depth information on selected animals and various tips on field identification. The species selected here are also flagship or key species of protection at national and global level.
This book describes 44 species of mammals, 1 species of crocodile, 7 species of turtles and tortoises, 4 species of lizards, 9 species of snakes and 78 species of birds which are listed under various schedules of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 and are found in Bihar.
